HAPPY HOUSEHOLD PET CAT CLUB

The Happy Household Pet Cat Club extends to you a warm and cordial invitation to join our club. HHPCC is an international organization whose membership is open to all feline lovers. Our primary focus is the HHP exhibitor, but it is not necessary to show your cat or even to own a cat to belong.

Upon joining you will receive a membership card. Your dues will be renewable annually on the date noted on your card. You must be a member in good standing on June 1st for your cat(s) to be eligible for awards earned the previous show season (if you're a member by June 1, 2008, your cat(s) will be scored for the 2007-2008 season).

Our newsletter, the HHPCC Happenings, is issued 6 times a year, roughly January, March, May, July, September and November. It contains show reports, upcoming shows, anecdotes, legislation and humane society reports, cat health concerns, book and product reviews, and other matters of interest to cat owners. The January issue, Pets on Parade, is our annual awards issue.

Those who do not show their cats will enjoy the newsletter as well as other occasional special "events". During the summers of '90 and '02 we ran photo contests open to all members. A recent HHPCC Happenings included a caption contest.

We have a system for registering your cat(s). You will receive a hand-lettered certificate which includes a number belonging only to your cat. Use this number when you send in your entry to a cat show. Many clubs are willing to print the number in the catalog. The current fee is $4 per cat. Contact HHPCC Registrar, Florine Jones (8862 Sharkey Ave., Elk Grove, CA 95624) to register your cat(s). Registration is not necessary in order to have your cat scored for our annual awards. It is necessary in order to claim titles.

Our title award system is based on the one used by CFF. Honored Housecat requires one final. Greatly Honored Housecat requires five more finals under three different judges (to be from a different show[s] than the first title). Supremely Honored Housecat requires six more finals (at yet different shows) under three different judges, one of which must be a Best Cat. Honored and Greatly Honored receive a certificate ($2 each), Supremely Honored receives a certificate and rosette ($6). Contact Dorothy Lewis for further information.

Your cat's eligibility for our annual awards is determined by its owner's HHPCC membership. Please be sure your cat is shown in show catalogs as belonging to whichever member(s) of the family belong to HHPCC. Do Not show someone else's cat under the ownership of an HHPCC member. It is more than a bit embarassing when an award must be withdrawn because the cat was not actually eligible. Be consistant in using your cat's name. It takes extra time when it must be decided whether "Lady Butterfly", "Lady", and "Butterfly" are three cats or one!

We award honors to the top ten cats and five kittens in each of seventeen geographical regions as well as nationally. In some regions, due to very stiff competition, there are ten kitten awards and up to twenty cat awards. Where you reside determines the region your cat competes in. Your cat's top five shows within its region (or within 250 miles, if out of region) will determine its regional standing for the season. Your cat's top ten shows (regardless of where held) will determine its national standing.

Points are awarded for the nature of an award, e.g. Best Cat receives 100 points, Second Best 90 points and so on. Additional points are awarded to Best through Tenth Best Cat determined by the number of cats defeated in taking the award. No points are awarded for Best of the Best or royalty wins. The total number of points earned in a show is divided by the number of rings to equalize the disparities in the different sizes of shows. Kittens receive kitten points only when they are judged as a separate class. Otherwise they compete as cats.

We have special HHP rosettes which we offer to any club which is willing to send a donation and furnish us with a show catalog completely and correctly marked for HHPs and including HHP exhibitor addresses. The results are used for scoring our annual awards; the addresses are for contacting other HHP owners with information about HHPCC. Contact the management of shows you're planning to attend and ask if they'd like to award our rosettes. Show managers may contact HHPCC Rosette Chairman, Eve Noonan.

If you attend a show which does not award the HHPCC rosettes and you want your cats' wins to be scored for that show, you may send in a marked catalog. You may purchase an extra catalog to mark; you may photocopy your catalog; you may type or write (legibly, please) the needed information. We must have: the date, location , club name, list of all HHPs and their owners, complete list of all HHP final awards, and if possible, HHP addresses. If you hand copy the information, be sure to note for back-to-back shows any cat which was entered for only Sat. or only Sun. If you attend a show which does not have a printed catalog, gather as much of the above information as possible. If it can be scored, it will be. Also, if you have almost complete (but not quite) finals for a show, send it in anyway. Other members present may be able to fill in the gaps. All show reports and questions regarding scoring should be sent to HHPCC Scorer, Dorothy Lewis.

The show season runs from May 1st through April 30th. Catalogs to be scored must be received by June 15th. Winners are normally notified shortly after July 1st. If you have catalogs to submit, it is helpful to the scorer if catalogs are sent one or two at a time soon after a show rather than in large bundles once or twice a season.
